Photo Digitization Project

At the Dickinson Museum Center, we have embarked on a multi-year project to catalog and digitize our photographic collections. This project to inventory, catalog, and scan our collection of photographs and negatives began in 2012. Primarily representing the work of the Osborn and Presthus/Horstman Studios, these collections date from the late 1800s to the early 1980s and contain a variety of images that range from the peculiar to the mundane. Images like these are touchstones to our past, linking it to our present and our future.

Preservation comes at a high cost and this project will take us several years and thousands of hours to complete, but in the end we will have a visual catalog of the people, places and things that have made our community unique. The collections are readily available to the public via our Omeka database for use in research, student history projects, genealogy or simply to reflect on the rich heritage of our community. Our role and our goal is to preserve these images and thousands like them for generations to come. When looking at these negatives and prints, you may notice some damage and deterioration has occurred because of the age and the previous conditions these images were stored in. Our best efforts have been made to minimize the effects of age and previous storage conditions.

You can help support this project by purchasing a mounted canvas print of any of the images available in our database.

Pricing starts at $58 + tax and is dependent upon size. Canvas print sizes may be dependent upon the original image proportions.  Please call us at (701) 456-6225 or email us at info [at] dickinsonmuseumcenter.org to discuss a specific image. We will need the Identifier information in order to locate the correct image. Photos printed on paper can usually be done within a few days of receiving the order. It may take up to 6 weeks to complete a Canvas Print order.

Images can also be printed on paper. Please note that the actual printed photo sizes may vary slightly depending upon the size of the original image. Photos on paper will be printed ‘as is’. Canvas prints may have some editing done to them.

  • One (8 x 10) Or Two (5x7) prints on regular printer paper @ $1.00 per sheet
  • One (8 x 10) print Or Two (5x7) prints on cardstock @ $2.50 per sheet
  • One (8 x 10) print Or Two (5x7) prints on photographic paper @ $5.00 per sheet
  • One photo (up to 12 x 17) on 13 x 19 photographic paper @ $15.00 per sheet
